Aurangabad, June 9: Thousands of farmers have been deprived of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). While there are eight lakh crop insurance holders in the district, only 1.30 lakh farmers got the benefit of insurance. There are a large number of farmers in many places in the district whose crops have been damaged due to heavy rains. However, only ten to fifteen per cent of the farmers got compensation. The state government will be apprised in this regard and a statement will be given to the divisional commissioner, MP Dr Bhagwat Karad, in a meeting with the officials of the agriculture department.

Karad alleged that the state government documented the average crop production and threshold report for five years while providing insurance, as a result the insurance companies reduced the sum insured to the farmers in the district. The insurance company has given meager financial assistance to the farmers. There is great dissatisfaction among the farmers against the crop insurance policy of the state government. Farmers are being obstructed by the connivance of private insurance companies and senior officials of the agriculture department. Joint director D L Jadhav, District agriculture superintendent T S Mote, Uday Devlankar, insurance company representative R K Bhingare, BJP district vice president Sanjay Khambayate were present.
