Foam in drain catches fire; three fire incidents reported in city

Discarded sofa material and foam dumped in a drain in the City Chowk area caught fire on Saturday afternoon. Local residents rushed to the spot and managed to control the blaze using water from a private tanker. Traders in the vicinity had allegedly been dumping sofa waste directly into the drain, which is suspected to have triggered the fire due to unknown reasons. In a second incident, garbage caught fire in Kabra nagar area of Garkheda. Later in the evening, a third fire broke out in a heap of waste near Chhatrapati College in the Cidco N-3 area. As a transformer (DP) was located nearby, there was a risk of a major mishap. However, the fire brigade responded promptly and brought the situation under control, averting a potential disaster.
