Aurangabad, Feb 10:

The Satara, Kanchanwadi mountains were engulfed in the forest fire on Wednesday evening. Around 5 hectares forest area reduced to ashes while the officers and the employees of the forest department were trying to extinguish the fire. The fire spread in the sphere of Kanchanwadi, Vitkheda and Nakshatrawadi.

The forest department received information about the fire at around 5 pm. Similarly, the fire brigade was also informed. The fire brigade went to the footsteps of the mountain, but could not do anything as they did not have any equipment to extinguish the fire on the top of the mountains. The mountains dense with trees and grass and it caught fire due to heat.

Around 40 employees of the department tried to extinguish the massive fire. They implemented ‘Dead Fire’ technique which is used to restrict the fire from spreading. The efforts were taken to restrict the fire till late evening.

Meanwhile, the fire tenders were deployed at the footsteps of the mountains so that the fire should not spread in the nearby localities. However, the there had been huge losses of the wild life due to the fire. Forest Circle Officer Shashikant Tambe told that the employees have gain control over the fire but they are still alert so that the fire should not spread further, he said.
