The Pundaliknagar police nabbed a suspect for stealing a motorcycle from Trimurti Chowk. However, during an investigation, it was revealed that the suspect had stolen the motorcycle to repay a debt. Surprisingly, the suspect had resigned as a clerk from a nationalised bank after receiving money under the Samruddhi expressway.
According to police, the suspect Uddhav Shivaji Phad (36, Garkheda area) was working as a clerk in a nationalized bank. He resigned from his job after he received a large sum of money from the government as compensation for his land acquired for the Samruddhi expressway However, in past four years, he spent all his money on addiction and he went into debt. To pay off the debt, he stole a motorcycle from Trimurti Chowk on Monday. Pundalikanagar police arrested him within 12 hours. AI Ghanshyam Sonawane said that the motorcycle of Atul Omkar Shinde, a resident of Shivneri Colony, was stolen from Trimurti Chowk. The thief was captured on a CCTV camera. Seeing this picture, the police got his name, address and mobile number. A team of PSI Dhanaji Adhav, constable Ramesh Sangle, Balaram Chaure, Shivaji Gaikwad caught Phad at 2 am. He confessed that he had borrowed Rs 12,000 from Madhukar Manohar Chavan of Ranjangaon Shenpunji and stole the bike to repay the debt. Phad is highly educated and is not having a criminal background. Police on Tuesday seized the motorcycle from Chavan.
Wasted money on addiction
The accused Phad was a clerk in a nationalised bank. During the same period, he received a large sum of money for the acquisition of farmland for the Samrudhi expressway. He quit his job after being transferred to Karnataka by the bank. In four years, the money was spent on addiction and he turned to theft.
