Aurangabad, Feb 10: Former Shiv Sena MP and prominent lawyer Tukaram Renge lost Rs 49,000 after he was duped by cyber crooks in a tele-phishing attack on Tuesday.

According to details, Renge received an SMS first and then a call from an unidentified man informing him that his SIM card will be blocked, if he does not recharge his card. Trusting him, Renge gave his phone to his friend Sopan Phalke and asked him recharge his phone by adding balance of Rs 10. The crook again called Renge and this time Phalke received the call. The caller sent a link of an application on MP’s mobile phone asking Phalke to download the application for recharging the phone. Phalke obliged the caller and recharged the MP's phone through the given application to add a balance of Rs 10. Renge received an SMS, this time from the State Bank of India, informing him about the debit of Rs 49,000 from his account next moment after his phone was recharged.

On realising the matter of fact, Adv Renge lodged a complaint with the Nanalpeth police station and based on it a case of cheating was registered in the evening. PI Kundankumar Waghmare is investigating case.
