Aurangabad, April 25:

Former special inspector general of police (special IGP) Shamsuddin M Sayed, passed away in Pune on Saturday morning. He was deputy commissioner of police in Aurangabad in 1996-98.

After the completion of his education in Pune and Nashik, Sayed (IPS) joined police service in 1975.

He worked on different posts at various places in the State, including Kolhapur, Parbhani, Gardcholi, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Mumbai, Jalna, Khandala, Aurangabad, Nashik, between 1975 and 2009.

He retired as special inspector general of police (Mumbai DG office) in 2009.

He was undergoing dialysis for the past few years and he contracted COVID about a week ago. Shamsuddin passed away at 9.30 am in Pune on Saturday. He was 72 and leaves behind wife and two sons. The last rites were performed on him at 5 pm in Pune.
