Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
The Shivajinagar underpass witnessed severe traffic disruption on Wednesday after four heavy vehicles got stuck at different intervals between 1 pm and 7.45 pm, causing long traffic snarls and public inconvenience.
As previously reported by Lokmat Times, the issue has been aggravated by the alleged negligence of the traffic police at Deolai Chowk, leading to frequent congestion. The sequence began around 1 pm when a hyva truck got stuck under the underpass, leading to a traffic jam lasting nearly one and a half hours. Long queues of vehicles formed on both sides, with motorists also struggling in the intense afternoon heat. The vehicle was eventually removed after repeated efforts, forcing several drivers to take alternative routes. At around 5.45 pm, a bus carrying workers got stuck at the iron structure near Deolai Chowk. During the incident, a portion of the bus roof reportedly got damaged, further worsening the situation as traffic movement came to a halt. Shortly after, a tempo also got trapped in the same structure, adding to the congestion. At around 7.45 pm, an Eicher truck (MH 25 AJ 8697) heading towards Deolai Chowk got stuck. The vehicle was cleared only after deflating its tyres, taking nearly half an hour. This led to long queues of vehicles stretching across Deolai area and up to the Shivajinagar water tank, severely impacting evening commuters returning from work and shoppers. The repeated incidents raised questions over the planning of the underpass infrastructure. Traffic police remained present at the spot and managed to restore movement after nearly an hour of efforts. While one service road on the Shivajinagar side was recently completed, offering some relief in the coming days, the service road on the Deolai Chowk side remains incomplete, continuing to affect smooth traffic flow in the area.
