Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Six German tourists Jos, Pascal Bocher, Stefan Fabin, and family who came to the city for a friend's wedding stepped straight into an Indian kitchen instead of limiting themselves to sightseeing.

At the home of Girish Khot, host Mayura Khot taught them to prepare pohe, raw mango pickle, panha, dosa-chutney, thecha, dry potato sabzi, and the perfect Indian chai. Despite no common language, enthusiasm erased every barrier as the guests carefully noted tempering techniques and spice quantities on their phones.

Curry leaves going straight to Germany

So taken were they by Indian flavours that they carried curry leaves home as a memento. "They stayed like family and wanted to learn much more, but time didn't permit. Their love for India and its food was deeply felt," said Girish Khot. With recipes saved on their phones, German mornings may soon awaken to the aroma of pohe and steaming chai.
