Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
BJP leader Sameer Rajurkar was sworn in as the city’s 23rd mayor on Tuesday, becoming the first mayor of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after the city’s renaming. His journey has been an engaging one ,beginning in childhood at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) shakha run by Sudhir Erande in Samarthanagar and culminating in the mayoral office.
Born on December 31, 1977 in Masura village of Sindhudurg district, Rajurkar spent his entire childhood in the city. After completing his schooling at Saraswati Bhavan, he moved to Shahu College in Latur for higher education. Following his Class 12 in commerce, he returned to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for graduation, completing his degree at Deogiri College. During this period, he actively participated in college-level student representative elections, often planning campaign strategies, clearly demonstrating his political aptitude. He associated himself with the BJP Yuva Morcha and simultaneously began working with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) . As his political journey progressed, the BJP entrusted him with the responsibility of Samarthanagar ward president.
Family background
The Rajurkar family originally hails from Bhaktapur (Deglur). Sameer’s father, Subhash Rajurkar, moved to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in 1960. A BE (civil), he earned recognition as a contractor. Sameer’s uncle Deepak Rajurkar is an MD in medicine, while another uncle, Chandrashekhar Rajurkar, has made significant contributions to the development of Marathwada. His mother, Sushma Rajurkar, is educated up to BA. His wife, Shubhangi, holds degrees in BSc, ALB and LLM. His in-laws are from Tuljapur. Their son, Ranveer, is in the third year of MBBS in Latur, and their daughter, Swamini, has passed Class 9.
