Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The state government has announced a provision of funds in the state budget on March 6 for the expansion of the runway at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar International Airport. The move follows the preliminary land acquisition notification issued by the district administration in January 2025. The funding is expected to accelerate the land acquisition process and runway expansion, which officials claim could be completed within 12 months.

The project, including land acquisition and runway extension, is estimated to cost around Rs 700 crore. Once completed, the expanded runway will facilitate smoother take-off and landing of international flights from the airport.

Runway extension of 825 metres

A large tract of land will be required for the runway expansion and taxiways. Currently, the airport runway measures 9,300 feet (2,835 metres). A proposal has been made to extend it to 12,000 feet, requiring land acquisition for about 2,700 feet. As part of the project, a new runway stretch of around 825 metres will be developed.
