The state government has appointed G. Sreekanth as the new divisional commissioner of Marathwada. Transfer orders were issued on Thursday evening. Incumbent commissioner Jitendra Papalkar has been transferred to Mumbai as joint commissioner, GST.

Sreekanth was earlier transferred on April 2 from the post of municipal commissioner to director of Jal Jeevan Mission. Within 14 days, he has now been posted as divisional commissioner. Guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat and OBC welfare minister Atul Save had opposed Sreekanth’s earlier transfer and urged the government to retain him until completion of key water supply projects. His reappointment in the region is seen as a response to their request. Papalkar said he accepts the government’s decision. Meanwhile, Cidco chief administrator Jagdish Minniyar has been transferred as commissioner of the Women and Child Welfare Department. The Cidco post remains vacant. Minister Atul Save stated that the decision was taken by the Chief Minister to ensure continuity in water supply projects. Guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat expressed confidence that development works in Marathwada would gain momentum under Sreekanth’s leadership.
