Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The 60th Independence Day of Gambia was celebrated with enthusiasm at MGM University on Tuesday. A flag hoisting ceremony was organised by the Association of Gambian Students in India at Chintangah of the university on Tuesday.

The Independence Day ceremony was attended by the president of Association of Gambian Students in India (AGSI) Ibrima Mbowe, Vice President Sainabou Sanyang, Chancellor of MGM University Ankushrao Kadam, Vice Chancellor Dr Vilas Sapkal, Registrar Dr Ashish Gadekar, Deputy Director of the Confederation of Indian Industry Indrayani Mulye, deputy head of Mission of the Gambian Embassy Dr Ebrima Mboob, Sarjo Jarju, Dean Dr John Chelladurai and others were present.

A dance and cultural programme based on Gambian culture was presented on this occasion. Afghan students were present and participated in the programme. A portal for the safe and speedy transfer of students was inaugurated by the dignitaries.

Ibrima Mbowe, President of AGSI said, "We are far away from our home today. But, here in India, we got to see the same intimacy as our home. Students have many opportunities in education here. Through this, cultural and educational activities will be organised to provide opportunities to students."
