A gang of robbers stormed a farmer’s house in Varkhed Shivara, Gangapur Taluka, early Monday, brutally assaulting four family members and looting valuables worth Rs 1.25 lakh. Two victims sustained serious injuries.

The attack unfolded at around 3.30 am when four masked robbers broke into the house of Ashok Aute (55) in Survey No. 213. They attacked Ashok, his son Ganesh (40), daughter-in-law Sonali (35), and grandson Rudra (14), threatening them with weapons before making off with gold jewellery worth Rs 1.05 lakh and Rs 20,000 in cash. Before fleeing, the robbers snatched the family’s mobile phones and tossed them into the fields. They also vandalized half an acre of the farm’s watermelon crop. Around 6.30 am, a severely injured Ashok Aute managed to alert relatives from a neighbouring settlement. Ashok and Ganesh were rushed to the sub-district hospital before being shifted to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s GMCH for further treatment.

PI Salim Chaus and his team from Shillegaon Police Station inspected the scene and registered a case. With the assistance of the local crime branch, officers detained four suspects for questioning. A case has been registered at Shillegaon Police Station, and police have detained four suspects with the help of the local crime branch.

Fear grips the village

The robbers also attempted to break into an abandoned house nearby but found nothing valuable. The incident has left the local farming community shaken, raising concerns over safety in the region. Police are investigating possible links to previous thefts in the area. Security measures are being reviewed to prevent further incidents.
