Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A suspect who displayed a poster featuring international gangster Lawrence Bishnoi along with radical slogans during the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti celebrations was detained by Kranti Chowk police. Following orders from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nitin Bagate, the police tracked down and detained the suspect.

The suspect has been identified as Darshan alias Vishal Pawar (21, Bhavaninagar, Rohidaspura) on Thursday. The city district witnessed grand celebrations of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti with discipline from Shiv devotees and tight police security, ensuring a peaceful event yeaterday. However, a controversy erupted when a poster of Lawrence Bishnoi was displayed at the Kranti Chowk celebration. Taking serious note of the matter, the city police launched an investigation. DCP Bagate instructed Kranti Chowk police to take the suspect into custody, following which, on Thursday evening, PSI Ashok Ingole’s team detained Darshan after confirming his identity.

Search for poster creator underway

During questioning, Darshan, who works as a labourer, claimed he did not create the poster. He stated that while attending the celebration, he grabbed the poster from someone in the crowd and tossed it into the air. Police are now investigating who created the poster, their intent, and whether they are affiliated with any organization.

Intelligence agencies begin an investigation

Both city police and intelligence agencies are gathering information about Lawrence Bishnoi supporters in the region. According to sources, central and state intelligence agencies had received inputs about the growing influence of Bishnoi’s supporters in Marathwada over the past few months. Following Wednesday’s incident, the investigation has been intensified.
