Commercial gas supply to over 400 industries in MIDC areas remains suspended, and the alternative PNG (piped natural gas) from Waluj cannot be used immediately due to unavailability of gas meters and technical constraints. As a result, industries are unable to resume production.

Officials said industries forced to shut down boilers due to gas shortage must submit a formal request to the government, after which a decision will be taken. The clarification was given during a joint meeting with industrialists at the District Collector’s office on Friday. The meeting was attended by representatives of CMIA, Massia, gas distribution companies, supply department, MIDC and other government departments. Present were divisional commissioner Jitendra Papalkar, district collector Dilip Swami, DSO Pravin Phulari, Chetana More, Dr Uddhav Wayal, Ravindra Shinde, HPCL representative Shubham Chauhan, BPCL representative Nitin Bajaj, MIDC regional officer Amit Bhamare, Auric Industrial area GM Mahesh Shinde, Massia president Arjun Gaikwad, and executive engineer Rameshchandra Giri, among others.

Industrialists’ demands to be sent to govt

Industrial associations urged the administration to prioritise gas supply to industries producing essential materials for hospitals. Papalkar directed officials to forward these representations to the government. A memorandum from hotel industry representatives will also be sent.

Warning against hoarding

Papalkar instructed officials to stay in constant touch with gas companies and warned that strict action will be taken against hoarding or black-marketing of gas during the crisis.
