The severe shortage of commercial gas cylinders has created anxiety during the ongoing wedding season, raising fears that some ceremonies may be affected. With limited auspicious dates in the Hindu almanac, families are urging banquet halls and caterers to ensure weddings take place as scheduled.
There are only about 30 major wedding Muhurats between March and July this year, while none fall in November and December. If these dates are missed due to the gas shortage, couples may have to wait until the next wedding season beginning January 21, 2027, said astrologer Suresh Kedare Guruji.
Families are insisting that arrangements be made at any cost. “We have already paid the advance. If gas cylinders are not available, use diesel stoves or wood-fired stoves, but ensure the wedding feast and ceremony take place on time,” said Rakhamaji Jadhav, founder president of the Mandap Welfare Association.
Banquet hall operators say no weddings have been postponed so far despite the crisis. “Customers do not want to take the risk as there are no auspicious dates later this year. We are considering alternatives such as diesel stoves and wood-fired cooking,” said Ganesh Sakhare, manager of a banquet hall.
