As the Godavari–Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation becomes autonomous from April 1, it will have to bear the full salary burden of its officers and employees, triggering concern among staff. Senior sources said nearly 100 Class I officers, including chief and superintending engineers, are considering cancelling their deputation and returning to government service. The state government has directed the corporation to generate its own revenue through measures such as higher water tariffs, solar power projects at dams, direct control of fishing contracts, and tourism development. However, doubts remain over whether water tariff collections will be sufficient, especially during drought years. Against this backdrop, daily discussions are underway among senior engineers on exercising the option to return to government service.
