Gold ornaments weighing over 12 tolas and collectively valued at around Rs 18 lakh were stolen in two separate incidents reported under City Chowk and Satara police stations. Investigations are underway.

In the first case, Tasleem Qureshi of Lotakaranja alleged that her co-wife, Tahera Qureshi of Hinanagar, Rashidpura, took away gold ornaments including an 8-tola necklace and 2-tola earrings from an iron cupboard at her residence on January 1. The complaint was lodged at the City Chowk police station after alleged delays and assurances from her husband failed to resolve the matter. In the second incident, unidentified thieves broke into the house of Maya Santosh Raikar in Vaitagwadi, Nathnagar (Kanchanwadi area), between April 24 and May 1, and stole over 23 grams of gold ornaments. A case has been registered at the Satara police station.

Discrepancy in valuation

Police valuation pegged 10 tolas of gold at Rs 2.40 lakh and 23 grams at Rs 84,500. However, officials noted that the current market value of 12 tolas exceeds Rs 18 lakh, pointing to a sharp discrepancy in preliminary estimates.
