With gold rates crossing Rs 1.70 lakh per tola, thieves have been actively targeting women in the city. Two incidents occurred over 4.1 km. Vijayashree Tellawar (Shivajinagar) had her 2.5-tola gold chain snatched near Vani Mangal Karyalaya by two men on a motorbike, while Vaishali Dabe (N-4) narrowly escaped loss after the thieves attempted to grab her Bentex chain on Thursday, between 4 pm and 6 pm.

The spate of snatchings has affected areas including Jawaharnagar, Satara, Waluj industrial settlement, and Mukundwadi. Jawaharnagar police inspector Sachin Kumbhar, assistant inspector Atish Lohakare, and sub-inspector Maroti Khillare responded promptly to Vijayashree’s case. Mukundwadi police inspector Sachin Ingole and police sub-inspector Shivaji Ghorpade attended Vaishali’s incident immediately. After the second incident, a car driver pursued the thieves, forcing them to abandon the motorbike. Investigations revealed the same bike was used in both attacks, and both riders had fully covered faces. The motorbike belonged to Dhage from Jalna and had been stolen Wednesday night from Kadeem police station, Jalna, with a case already registered. Authorities continue to investigate, warning women to remain vigilant amid the ongoing spree.
