The family of a farmer who dies due to accidents, such as snake bites or electric shocks, is entitled to Rs 2 lakh under the Gopinath Munde Shetkari Apghat Suraksha Sanugrah Audhan Yojana. Previously offline, the scheme is now available online via the Agriculture Department’s MahaDBT portal. Earlier, applications had to be submitted in writing to the tehsil Agriculture Officer within 30 days of the farmer’s death. From 1 January, applications must be submitted online with all supporting documents uploaded. Applicants must log in using the deceased farmer’s heir’s Aadhaar number, which is required to complete all procedures, said Agriculture Officer Balasaheb Joshi.
