Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The new water supply scheme is a ‘dream project’ for Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. About 90 per cent of the work on this project has been completed. Bringing water from Jayakwadi into the jackwell and then conveying it to the city through a 2500 mm pipeline was a major undertaking. I am extremely pleased that water is now reaching the city. I feel satisfied that I could contribute something for the city, expressed outgoing municipal commissioner G Sreekanth.

“I assumed charge as administrator on May 3, 2023. The government gave me the opportunity to work in the municipal corporation for 2 years, 11 months and one day. Working as an administrator comes with many challenges. It is somewhat easier when working alongside elected representatives, as one mainly implements the decisions they take. However, administrators must take decisions after understanding public opinion. Three years ago, the new water supply scheme was in great difficulty. We had to overcome numerous obstacles to bring it towards completion. This scheme will ensure ample water supply to the city for the next 40 to 50 years. While facing these challenges, many tough decisions had to be taken. Whether it was the road widening drive or other development works, decisions had to be made keeping the city’s welfare in mind. A major project like the zoological park has reached its final stage. Today, the table tennis club was also inaugurated,” he noted.

Amol Yedge will perform well

Amol Yedge has now been handed charge. His first posting was in Beed in the Marathwada region, where he worked effectively as CEO. At that time, I was the district collector of Latur. He also performed well as district collector in Yavatmal and Kolhapur. I am confident that he will contribute significantly to the overall development of the city, said the outgoing civic chief.

Ready to offer guidance for the water supply scheme

“Bringing water from Jayakwadi to Nakshatrawadi required immense effort, but even greater effort will be needed to distribute it within the city. Therefore, if the government asks, I am always ready to provide guidance for the new water supply scheme,” G. Sreekanth added.
