Aurangabad, Nov 28:

The lockdown has hit the state goods and services tax department (SGST) hard. In the last six months, the Aurangabad division has received only Rs 526.49 crore GST. Last year, the collection was Rs 1,040.24 crore.

SGST office here covers Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed districts. The number of taxpayers in the department is about 37,000. Corona has had a major impact on all sectors. Due to the lockdown, except for essential services and essentials shops, industrial areas and markets were closed. Although the situation has returned to normal after the unlock, it is clear from the state GST department''s tax collection that the overall turnover has plummeted significantly in the last six months. Meanwhile, due to the decline in revenue, the officials have focussed their attention on those not filing their returns.

Revenue for six months

In the past six months, the department has received a total revenue of Rs 69.85 crore in April, Rs 38.51 crore in May, Rs 95.34 crore in June, Rs 111.85 crore in July, Rs 89.50 crore in August and Rs 121.07 crore in September, including VAT and GST. Compared to last year, it has declined by Rs 514 crore, i.e. 49 per cent, sources said.
