Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

In the backdrop of statements made by social justice minister and guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat regarding the municipal corporation building, which allegedly promote superstition and lack scientific basis, a memorandum has been submitted to the municipal commissioner by state general secretary Shahaji Bhosale and district working president Prakash Daud of Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS).

In the memorandum, an objection has been raised to the guardian minister’s statement that “the municipal corporation building stands on land that was earlier a graveyard, and hence spirits are seen there and a sense of unease is felt.” MANS has condemned this remark, stating that such statements create fear among citizens, encourage superstition, and damage the image of the municipal corporation.

As per Article 51(A)(h) of the Indian Constitution, it is the duty of every citizen to develop a scientific temper. Additionally, under the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, the promotion of such superstitious beliefs is prohibited. MANS has clearly stated that there is no scientific evidence for the existence of ghosts or spirits, and making such claims spreads misconceptions in society.

During the submission, demands were made for immediate action by the municipal administration. These include issuing an official clarification rejecting such superstitious claims, discouraging responsible individuals from making irresponsible statements, conducting awareness campaigns to promote scientific thinking among citizens, and assuring that the functioning of the municipal corporation is safe and smooth.

The organisation has urged the municipal administration to take serious note of the matter and initiate appropriate action at the earliest.
