Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Students who completed their M. Phil from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) and received fellowships have not been provided a guide for PhD admission for the past two years. As a result, in the petition filed, Justice Mangesh S Patil and Justice Y G Khobragade of the divisional bench of Bombay High Court ordered the issuance of a notice to the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Head of the Department (HoD) at Bamu, said Adv Mahesh Bhosale.

During the hearing, Adv. Bhosale argued on behalf of the petitioner, while Adv Sambhaji Tope appeared on behalf of the university. The next hearing is scheduled to take place after three weeks.

What is the petition about?

The petition has been filed by Dhammapal Jadhav and other students. The petitioners completed their M. Phil from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism two years ago. They have also received fellowships from both the Central and State Governments. However, they have not been provided with a guide for PhD admission, which has led to the filing of this petition.

Details of the petition

According to the university and UGC regulations, after completing M. Phil under the supervision of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Head of Department, a three-member committee is appointed to grant admission to the PhD programme. However, the petition claims that despite submitting representations, conducting protests, and making repeated requests over the past two years, no action has been taken regarding PhD admission. As a result, 7 students have filed this petition.
