Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court comprising Justice Vibha Kankanwadi and Justice Sanjay Deshmukh ordered the state government to deposit Rs 25,000 per petition as "cost" for each petition, totalling Rs 1.75 lakh for 7 petitions. The order was given as the government failed to provide benefits and retirement pay to part-time librarians as full-time librarians were not followed for nearly a year. Besides, it has unnecessarily filed a review petition.

After the amount of "cost" is deposited, it should be distributed among the original seven petitioners, stated the court's order.

What was the original petition about?

Sanjay Wadekar from Latur and five other part-time librarians from Nanded filed a petition through Adv. Tukaram Vyanjane for upgradation to full-time librarians in the above bench. The bench, under a previous order, approved the petition and directed that the petitioners should be provided with full-time librarian benefits from the day the student count at their respective schools reached 1,000. It also ordered that they should be given retirement benefits since their service as part-time librarians.

Unnecessary Review Petition

The government did not comply with the previous high court order for nearly a year. However, it filed an unnecessary review petition. After the hearing, the bench rejected the government's review petition and issued the above order.
