Aurangabad, April 19:

A hearing on Aurangabad Municipal Corporation elections is likely to be held in Supreme Court on April 20.

All eyes of aspirants are towards the court hearing. It may be noted that the AMC elections were to be held in April 2020. But, former corporator Sameer Rajurkar and other social activists approached SC over wards restructuring and reservation.

The elections were not held as the matter is pending with the apex court. After admitting the petition of Rajurkar, the court directed the State Government, the AMC and other concerned to submit an affidavit.

The hearing on the matter is likely to be held on Tuesday. Aspirants feel that elections can be held in the city even during the COVID situation as elections are being held in different parts of the country, including by-election in Padharpur Assembly Constituency. They are just waiting for the court decision.

As per the cause list released on the SC portal, the civic body’s case is with the court's registrar. According to experts, the case may not come before SC bench for the hearing. Nothing can be said about the exact date of hearing until affidavits of all concerned are submitted.

“Online hearing is being held in SC only on matters of utmost importance,” they added.
