Aurangabad, Nov 10:

The hearing on all the petitions challenging the government circular about the cancellation of regional quota in medical admissions will be held in Aurangabad bench of Bombay High together on November 25. According to details, the State Government issued a circular on September 7, 2020 cancelling the quota reservation region-wise in medical admissions.

The Government has not given prior information to students before taking the decision. As per the quota, 70 per cent seats are reserved for students of that particular region while 30 seats are for other region’s candidates. The petitioners feel that if admissions are given as per the 70/30 quota, preference is given to allot the nearest college to the students.

“Students were confused due to Novel coronavirus situation for the past six months. They have done preparations taking into account regional quota system. The decision was taken keeping in mind the political objective. The Government supported the 70/30 quota system in Nagpur HC bench in 2016,” the petitioners said.

Different petitions were filed in the HC benches across the State, requesting to cancel the circular of September 7 and continue the regional quota system in the admission process.

A total of four petitions were filed in Aurangabad bench of HC, Nagpur HC bench transferred one petition to Aurangabad bench while some were in Bombay HC.

The arrangement was made to combine hearing on all petitions to avoid directives against each other. Advocates Shivaji Kadu Patil, Aniket Choudhary, A G Ambetkar, Ketan D Pote and V R Dhorde appear for the petitioners while chief government pleader adv D R Kale is representing the Government.
