Aurangabad, Oct 31:

The hearing on the appeal challenging the capital punishment awarded to a man in the double murder case by a lower court was completed in the Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court on October 29.

The bench comprising Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice B U Debadwar has reserved the judgment after hearing.

According to details, Krishna Sitaram Pawar (Yaval Pimpri Tanda, Ghasungi-Jalna) attacked his pregnant wife, mother-in-law Suman and their other relative Alka with a knife at Ambedkar Chowk in Ambad at 2 pm on October 24, 2015. The reason for the attack was that Lalita was not ready to return to her in-laws'' house.

In the attack, Suman and Lalita’s foetus died while two others were sustained serious injuries.

Jalna District Court awarded capital punishment to Krishna on June 18, 2020, for murdering his mother-in-law, life imprisonment for attempt to murder his wife and another relative. The court also sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for the murder of a foetus.

The accused challenged the judgment of the lower court in HC. Assistant Government pleader Kishor Hoke Patil represented the Government while senior lawyer Rajendra Deshmukh appeared for Krishna. Advocates Govind Kulkarni, Devang Deshmukh and Vishal Chavan assisted adv Rajendra.
