Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

With temperatures crossing the 40°C mark in the city, the rising heat is beginning to impact public health. Complaints of headaches, weakness and dehydration are on the rise. Hospitals, including GMCH and the civil hospital, as well as private facilities, are seeing an increasing number of patients with such symptoms.

As temperatures peak during the afternoon, the body loses fluids rapidly, leading to excessive sweating, fatigue and headaches. Doctors said that while no serious heatstroke cases have been reported at GMCH or the civil hospital so far, patients with mild heat-related ailments are visiting the OPD.

No serious cases yet

“No severe heatstroke patient has been admitted so far. However, patients with mild symptoms like headaches due to heat are visiting the OPD. Citizens should take adequate precautions while stepping out and drink sufficient water,” said civil surgeon, Dr Kamalakar Mudkhedkar.

Precautions to follow

------Avoid stepping out between 12 noon and 4 pm as far as possible.

-----Use a cap, scarf or umbrella while going out in the sun.

---Drink plenty of water; include lemon water, buttermilk and ORS in your diet.

---Wear light, loose and cotton clothes.

---Avoid oily, spicy and heavy food; opt for fruits and light meals.

---Do not drink cold water immediately after coming from the heat; take some rest first.

---Take extra care of children, the elderly and those who are unwell.

---Seek immediate medical advice if you experience dizziness, vomiting, fever or extreme weakness.
