A surge in power demand amid the ongoing heatwave led to a temporary outage at the 33 kV Pannalalnagar substation on Thursday night, affecting nearly 15,000–20,000 consumers for about an hour.

With the city recording 41.4°C, increased use of cooling appliances pushed evening demand to peak levels. The Satara feeder tripped at 7.15 pm due to overload, and the load was shifted to the Chikalthana feeder, which also tripped at 8.52 pm, plunging the area into darkness. MSEDCL engineers traced snapped jumpers near Hanumannagar and MIT College and restored the Chikalthana feeder at 10.05 pm, followed by the Satara feeder shortly after. Executive engineer Mahendra Deshmukh and a 30-member team carried out the restoration work.
