The counting in Ward No. 22 proved that in politics, “nothing can be said until the official result is declared.” Initial celebrations were held, but within just half an hour, the entire scenario changed, turning BJP’s joy into disappointment.
According to the early trends, BJP’s Suvurna Tupe was considered the clear winner. On hearing this, party workers erupted in celebration. Newly elected BJP candidates Ashok Damle, Sumitra Mhatre, and Pushpa Nirapgare joined Tupe, showing victory signs and showering gulal. The area echoed with cheers and the jubilation of supporters, some shedding tears of happiness.

The “Game” turns in half an hour
While the celebration was underway, the official announcement declared Yashoda Shelke the winner instead of Tupe. The dramatic reversal escalated political tensions. BJP veterans Atul Sāve, Sanjay Kenekar, and Kishor Shitole rushed to election officials Arun Jarad and Dinesh Sampil, demanding a recount. They staged a sit-in at the center. On the other side, Shinde Sena district chief Rajendra Janjal stood firmly in support of Yashoda Shelke. The situation became extremely tense.

Narrow defeat by 85 votes
Considering the objections, the administration ordered a recount. Amid a highly charged and stressful environment, votes were counted again. Even in the recount, Yashoda Gaikwad emerged victorious. BJP’s Suvurna Tupe suffered a narrow defeat by just 85 votes, finalizing Yashoda Gaikwad’s victory.
