Candidates with BE, BTech, MBA, BPharm, LLB and MSc degrees appeared for the police constable and bandsman recruitment that began Wednesday, surprising officials. Of 4,341 applicants, 1,221 (28%) are graduates or postgraduates, continuing last year’s trend and underlining both unemployment and the appeal of government jobs.
Recruitment is underway for 150 city constable posts at the SRPF ground and 53 district posts at Gokul ground. The physical test includes height and chest measurement, 100m and 1,600m run (800m for women), and shot put, totalling 100 marks; 50 marks are required to qualify for the written exam.

189 absent out of 597 called for district recruitment
For district recruitment, 597 candidates were called on Wednesday; 408 appeared, while 189 remained absent. Another 1,000 candidates have been called for February 12. special inspector general of police Virendra Kumar Mishra and superintendent of police Dr Vinaykumar Rathod reviewed the process.

Among the 1,221 highly educated candidates are BE (15), BTech (12), MBA (14), BPharm (9), MSc (27), LLB (2), MCom (43), BSc Agriculture (25), BBA/BCA (20), MA (2), BSc (363), BCom (135) and BA (554).

Candidates from Vidarbha seek jobs in Marathwada
A significant number of applicants are from Vidarbha, especially Amravati, Buldhana, Akola and Yavatmal. Applications were also received from Nandurbar (14), Nashik (138), Belgaum (1), Bhandara (4), Solapur (18), Chandrapur (3), Yavatmal (34), Washim (44), Thane (2), Parbhani (123), Palghar (2), Raigad (2), Satara (2), Amravati (24), Akola (29), Buldhana (246), Gondia (1), Kolhapur (6), Sangli (5), 871 collectively from Jalgaon, Jalna, Latur, Nagpur, Nanded, Pune, Dharashiv and Dhule, and 2,061 from other cities.

94 disqualified in city recruitment
For the 150 city posts, 7,693 candidates applied. On February 11, 701 of 1,000 called candidates appeared; 94 were disqualified in height and chest measurement, while 607 completed the physical test. police commissioner Praveen Pawar and deputy commissioners Prashant Swami and Sharmishtha Walawalkar-Gharge inspected arrangements.

Free accommodation for district candidates is available at Kailas Shilp near the SP office. For city candidates, affordable lodging has been arranged at Ramchandra Hall opposite MIT College and IRB’s Shaurya Mangal office in Satara.
