A policeman was seriously injured after two history-sheeters allegedly attacked him with a knife during a dispute at a biryani stall near Mona Beer Bar at TV Centre chowk on Dhulivandan afternoon.

The accused, Akshay Suradkar and Sagar Salve (both residents of Siddharth Nagar, M-2), have been booked at Cidco police station. The injured policeman, Nilesh Sadbhave (30), a constable with the Railway Police and resident of Padegaon, had gone to his relative’s paan stall at TV Centre chowk around 3 pm on March 3. While he was waiting for biryani at a nearby stall, the accused allegedly asked him to fill a glass of water and tried to intimidate him. When Sadbhave refused, the duo allegedly assaulted him with kicks and punches and stabbed him repeatedly in the stomach, chest and back. He collapsed on the spot with serious injuries and was later admitted to a private hospital. The accused fled after threatening him with death if he approached the police. After his condition stabilised, a case was registered at Cidco police station on March 4. Suradkar had earlier been accused of attacking traders at Sanjay Gandhi Market in TV Centre chowk on July 9, 2023, in an alleged extortion attempt, which had triggered a two-day market shutdown by protesting traders. Locals claim the accused have continued to spread fear in the area.
