The honour killing of a daughter Nandini Raju Dhivare (21) by her mother Bharati Umesh Sable (35), who was strongly opposing the love marriage, revealed that the mother, to get rid of frequent quarrels with her daughter, she attempted to committed suicide two days ago. However, the attempt was foiled as the neighbours and her children rushed and saved her. Bharati’s children were crying at the time of incident, but Nandini did not give any reaction. Seeing the stone face, Bharati thought of killing Nandini instead of ending her own life. The honour killing incident created a sensation in the Waluj area on Friday.
It is learnt that Umesh Sable (of Wadgaon Kolhati) was earning his livelihood by working in a fabrication workshop. Nandini’s father left the family when she was a minor. Later on, Bharti married Umesh. Since then Nandini was living with her mother and step-brother.
As usual on February 19, Nandini had heated arguments with her mother. Later on, when she entered the bathroom for bathing at 12 noon, Bharati thought it was the right time to kill her as she would not run outside the bathroom. She wrapped a plastic pipe around Nandini’s neck and strangulated her. Later on, she called her husband and brother Amol Gaikwad to dispose of the body and evidence.
Love marriage
Two years ago, Nandini loved a boy and got married to him, but the relationship did not last, as the boy eloped with another girl. As a result, Nandini was staying with her mother for the last eight months.
Bharti thought of getting Nandini married again so that she can live a happy married life. However, Nandini again fell in love with a boy from Kannad and insisted to marry him only. Bharati did not like the boy. However, Nandini was firm in marrying the boy of her choice. As a result, Bharati and Nandini would quarrel frequently in the house.
Mother attempts to commit suicide
Two days ago Bharti attempted to end her life. However, the neighbours swung into action and saved her. Bharati’s kids were crying over the incident, but Nandini’s stone face pinched her. This cold reaction changed her mind from ending her own life to kill Nandini herself.
10-hours near body
After strangulating Nandini at noon, Bharti sat near her body till the night (at least 10 hours). After informing her husband and brother, she planned to surrender herself to the police, but the two men prevented her from doing so. Instead, they planned to dispose of the body and now are cooling heels in the jail.
The police detained the trio at 1.30 am. In the meantime, the relatives reached the GMCH hospital to complete the process of post-mortem. However, Bharti broke down on seeing Nandini in the mortuary ward. She could not attend her last rites. Meanwhile, the last rites were performed on Nandini by her relatives. The police registered a case of murder in the matter, with themselves as the complainant.
