Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The hopes of aspirants becoming teachers in Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) have brightened as the administration succeeded in pursuing the State Government to fill vacant teaching posts.

It may be noted that the State Government approved 289 posts of full-time Professors, Assistant and Associate Professors in the 55 departments in the city and sub-centre. More than 150 posts fell vacant during the last 16 years due to reasons like teachers' superannuation, death or shifting to another university or college.

The vacant posts could not be filled for different causes including a recruitment ban from the Government. Bamu administration started the recruitment process in August 2023. More than 5,800 candidates applied for the 73 posts of Professors, Assistant and Associate Professors.

The recruitment could not see the day as some organisations took objection to the timing of the process. In the meantime, there was a model code of conduct for both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the State. This made the administration hire the faculty members on a contact basis for the current academic year.

Recently, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakantdada Patil announced that permission is being granted for the recruitment process for teaching posts in universities of the State.

Registrar Dr Prashant Amrutkar said that the administration has sought permission for the recruitment of vacant posts. “A total of 73 posts of teaching staff members will be filled once we get permission from the Government. However, there is no development in the recruitment of non-teaching staff’s recruitment.

New recruitment process in State

In order to bring more transparency and fairness in the selection process, a new procedure will be adopted for the recruitment process for teaching posts in the State, as per the announcement of Chandrakantdada Patil.

In the new process, there will be 100 marks for the selection of candidates. This will take into account academic credentials and their performance in the interview. Academic excellence, research and teaching will be given 80 per cent weightage while interviews will be given 20 per cent weightage. Only candidates who secure at least 50 per cent marks will be eligible for final selection.

--Assessment of teaching ability or research aptitude through seminars or lectures in a classroom situation or discussions on the ability to use the latest technology in teaching and research will be considered at the interview stage.
