Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

If the sources are believed the High Power Committee has approved the proposal to construct a 15-storey surgical building at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) during a meeting held at the Mantralaya on Friday. Hence, a 'Government Resolution' (GR) regarding this is expected to be issued soon.

The 50-year-old surgical building at GMCH will no longer be usable after five more years. Therefore, on September 17, 2024, during an event at the hospital, the GMCH administration requested funding for a new surgical building from the former Chief Minister and the current Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, who then instructed to initiate the necessary procedures regarding this. Following this, the Principal Secretary of Medical Education, Dinesh Waghmare, instructed to expedite the proposal for the surgical building. Accordingly, the GMCH administration and the Public Works Department (PWD) submitted a proposal for a 15-storey surgical building on approximately two acres of land.

GMCH Dean Dr Shivaji Sukre met Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at Chikalthana Airport on February 15. During the meeting, he primarily requested funding for the surgical building from the state-level fund. Now, with the approval from the High Power Committee, the way has been cleared for the construction of the new surgical building.
