Aurangabad, Jan 5:

A vast quantity of water is being wasted daily from an unidentified leakage and untraced water pipeline for the past one month in old Mondha area. The water pipeline could be resting below the newly constructed cement road. Hence the zonal office is waiting for permission to dig the concrete road for past one month, it is learnt.

Before constructing cement road in old Mondha, the Zilla Vyapari Mahasangh delegation had submitted a memorandum to the municipal commissioner. It urged him to lay separate water and drainage pipeline and then construct concrete roads in the city. However, the civic officials took it for granted and constructed the cement roads without proper planning. The waste of water through leakage is the best example of zero planning of AMC, said the president of General Kirana Merchant Association, Nilesh Sethi.

The pipeline got damaged about a month ago near the circle in old Mondha. The pipeline supply''s water to elevated storage reservoir (ESR) at Sanjaynagar-Baijipura. The AMC personnel dig a 10-feet deep pit from where the water was oozing out on the road, but there was no pipeline. Later on, the contractor dugged out another pit of 5-6 feet depth, below the cement road, then also they could not find the location of the pipeline. The cement road was constructed some six months ago and there is left with only one solution to dig out the new road to seal the leakage, it is learnt.

According to AMC engineer Arun More, " The office will repair the leakage after getting permission to dig out cement road."

According to a veteran merchant Satishchandra Sikchi, " The cement road has been constructed on the main water supply pipeline. The leakage had occured about a month ago. The civic personnel are not getting permission to dig out the cement road. Hence a huge quantity of water is getting wasted through the leakage daily. The water flows through the road till Jaffar Gate. As a result, many vehicles are getting slipped and loading rickshaws are also facing problems due to pits and mud. Two days ago, one cow fell in the pit. Later on, the cow was taken out with the help of tempo. The citizens are also getting slipped from their vehicles due to pits and moist mud on the road."

According to AMC officers, " The effort to trace the pipeline was done through digging pits at different places but was in vain. Hence, the cement road will have to be dug out for it."
