Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: MLC Satish Chavan made a demand in the Legislative Council on Thursday that the agriculture curriculum be included at the school level.

It may be noted that a committee was formed in 2005 under the chairmanship of agricultural expert Dr Rajaram Deshmukh to include agricultural curriculum at the school level. This agricultural curriculum designing committee submitted a report in 2006 to the then Agriculture Minister recommending the introduction of the agricultural curriculum at the school level.

MLC Satish Chavan brought to the notice of the House through a special mention that this report has been pending at the government level for the last 19 years and no action has been taken in this regard.

He said that many students in rural areas drop out of school midway. This creates financial hardship and they cannot compete in the fierce competition. "If important agricultural subjects can be taught in a simple manner from primary education onwards, they will be able to manage their home farms more consciously and intelligently," he said.
