Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A young woman from Uttarakhand travelled thousands of kilometres to be with a man from the city after connecting with him on Instagram. However, after keeping her for a few days, the man refused to accept her. Her family too declined to take her back and allegedly assaulted her when she returned home.

For a month, she stayed with her aunt but continued to face harassment from the man through calls and messages. With no support, she returned to Sambhajinagar and tried to find work in Shendra MIDC, but failed due to unfamiliarity with the city. Distressed, she approached Harsul police station and filed a complaint. Police have initiated an inquiry into the matter. She was provided temporary shelter at Manuskhi Old Age Home, where counselling helped her regain confidence. During the investigation, it emerged that the man had refused to keep her after learning she was suffering from tuberculosis. Later, expressing her wish to return to her aunt’s place, police and the Manuskhi organisation ensured her safe journey by putting her on a train on Tuesday night. Police inspector Swati Kedar, police sub-inspector Rakesh Deshmukh, constable Ashifa Patel, along with Manuskhi members Sumit and Pooja Pandit, and Prof. Sharad Sonawane assisted her throughout.
