Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The two-day International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was inaugurated at Maharashtra National Law University, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (MNLU-CS) on Friday.
The conference witnessed participation of eminent jurists, academicians, policymakers, and delegates from India and abroad. Vice-Chancellor Dr Bindu Ronald welcomed the dignitaries.
Senior legal scholars, including Dr Upendra Baxi (online), Dr Geetanjali Gill, G R Raghavendra, andformer judges of the High Court of Bombay- Justice Ravindra M. Borde and Sunil Deshmukh, industrialist Rishi K Bagla were present for the inaugural deliberations.
The speakers emphasised that law is a critical instrument in achieving social, environmental, and economic sustainability.
Justice Abhay S. Oka (former Judge of the Supreme Court of India) stressed the right to health, equality, and a pollution-free environment, along with the constitutional duty to protect ecosystems.
Clemens Arzt from the Berlin School of Economics and Law emphasised constitutional fraternity and the ‘oneness’ of humanity and nature, highlighting the transboundary nature of environmental challenges.
Dr Ramchandra Bhogale spoke on the balance between economic development and sustainability, underscoring the need to reduce carbon footprints through education and responsible consumption. Registrar Dr Dhananji Jadhav proposed a vote of thanks.
