Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The State Cancer Institute, Government Medical College and Hospital, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar celebrated International Women’s Week from March 8 to 14 on the occasion of International Women’s Day under the guidance of dean Dr Shivaji Sukre.

Various activities including cancer screening camps, rangoli competition, musical chair competition and games were organised for women officers, staff members and students. Around 150 women participated in the programmes.

The prize distribution ceremony was held on March 14 in the presence of officer on special duty Dr Arvind Gaikwad and medical superintendent Dr Darpan Jakkal. Dr Gaikwad appreciated the initiatives and advised women to prioritise their health.

Members of the organising committee present included president associate professor Dr Veenu Agrawal, secretary Dr Kaneez Fatema, Vaishali Bhivasane, Praveena More, Janavi Hoge, Mandakini Thokkal, Dr Asma Farheen, Rekha Devkate and others.

About 80 women participated in the musical chair competition, where Dhampriya Kharat won first prize, Priyanka Barane second and Mandakini Thokkal third. Consolation prizes were awarded to Shaikh Sabahat and Dr Sejal Chakran.

In the rangoli competition, Swati Lokhande secured first prize, Asmita Pawar second and Mangal Vidhate third, while encouragement prizes were given to Siyona Pawar and Dr Shilpa Gode.

Associate professor Dr Veenu Agrawal also guided women about regular health check-ups such as mammography, PAP smear tests and the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer.
