The judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Y G Dubey, today has awarded police custody remand (PCR) to Kapil Rajiv Rapate (33), held in the murder of Mantush Kumar Singh alias Monty Singh (36), till October 31.
Monty and Kapil knew each other. Kapil (a resident of Beed Bypass) was absconding since the day of the murder. The Crime Branch and Cantonment police succeeded in finding a clue and arrested him from Pune on Tuesday. The police learnt that the murder took place because of Monty''s lover with whom Kapil was also in relation.
Monty, a native of Bihar, was murdered in his rented flat on the third floor in Peace Home Housing Society, situated in Mitmita, on October 21 night. As a part of the investigation, the police came to know that the deceased was having a relationship with a lady. During the inquiry and surfing her mobile phone, the police found some important clues through mobile call recording. Based on it, the police were searching for Kapil Rapate alias Raje since then. In the meantime, the cops got a clue that Kapil is hiding in Pune. Hence the team went to Pune and arrested Kapil on Tuesday.
Kapil works in a private finance company, and his job is to seize vehicles of defaulters. Kapil''s father is a teacher, and they are the natives of Parbhani.
It so happened that Kapil and Monty became friends and they used to come to the house of each other. Kapil would also visit the house of Monty''s lover. Kapil and Monty had quarrelled over the issue before lockdown.
A day before the murder also Monty and Kapil quarrelled in a party. Later on, Monty and his friends took Kapil in a closed dhaba and beat him black and blue. Afterwards, Monty reached his flat along with his lover. He also beat the lady in his flat. As a result, the lover went to Mukundwadi and later on, briefed about the beating to Kapil. In a fit of rage, Kapil took the decision of killing Monty and get rid of him for once and all. Accordingly, he murdered him brutally. After committing the crime, he was hiding in Pune and was staying in touch with family members through other mobile numbers. Cantonment police registered the case and were investigating the murder.
