Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The city police arrested Mazhar Khan, the president of Khuldabad-based Kohinoor Education Society (KES), on Sunday morning for his involvement in seeking Ph D admission on the basis of a bogus degree.

Investigating officer and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sampat Shinde said that when Mazhar Khan was produced in court, it granted him police custody until April 9.

He also said that Khan was the mastermind of this case.

A case was registered at Begampura Police Station on March 26 against KES Society Secretary Asma Khan and Joint Secretary Maqsood Khan Anwar Khan. They obtained an exemption from the Ph D Entrance Test (PET) conducted by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in 2021 for Ph D admissions.

They produced bogus M-Phil degrees to seek exemption from PET for admissions.

In this case, the police arrested the accused Asma Khan on March 30. Maqsood Khan has been absconding since. During the interrogation of the arrested accused, it was revealed that the mastermind of this entire fake degree case was Asma Khan's husband and KES president Mazhar Khan. Therefore, the police arrested him today.

Big racket likely to come to light

According to the information given by the police, with the arrest of Mazhar Khan, there is a possibility that a big racket of selling fake degrees is likely to be exposed through the investigation. Police will also investigate which universities the fake degrees were prepared by them. The sources said that the police also requested the degrees of all the employees and teachers of Kohinoor College for investigation.

A case was registered against Mazhar Khan and Asma Khan, in the case of creating a fake medical university degree at the Bangalore Police Station, Karnataka. Mazhar Khan was also arrested in that case. Earlier, a case was registered against Mazhar Khan in the case of creating a fake law degree at the Jainapur Police Station in Uttar Pradesh. After that, he was arrested in the third case.
