Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A life convict, who was released on furlough, has absconded after failing to return to prison upon completion of his leave period. The accused has been identified as Zaker Baig Rehman Baig (33, Qasambari Dargah, Mitmita). A case has been registered against him at the Cantonment Police Station by the prison authorities.

The accused was booked in 2014 at Bhokardan Police Station for offences including domestic violence and murder. After charges were framed, the Jalna court sentenced him to life imprisonment on December 23, 2016. He was subsequently lodged at the open prison in Harsul.

On March 11, he was granted 28 days of furlough or earned leave. He was required to report back to the prison by 5 pm on April 9. However, he failed to return and could not be traced at his residential address. Following this, a case was registered against him at the Cantonment Police Station based on a complaint filed by jail authority Raghuvir Inge.
