A 39-year-old businessman was allegedly robbed and assaulted by a gang after stopping his car to give a lift near Jay Bhavani Nagar Chowk in the early hours of March 8. Pundliknagar police have registered a case against Rupali Patil, Rohit alias Karan Mhaskey, Rishikesh and two others.

According to police, Rahul Pandit (39, N-2) was travelling with his friend Karanjit Singh around 3 am to meet another friend, Sachin Narwade. At Jay Bhavani Chowk, a woman with a child stopped their car and requested a drop to Cidco Chowk, claiming a woman named Kavita Shinde was waiting there.

After getting into the car, she suddenly snatched Pandit’s mobile phone and fled. When Pandit chased her to Cidco Chowk, three accomplices attacked him, robbed his gold chain, ear stud and phone, and assaulted his friends. During investigation, police identified the accused through a contact number. Rohit Mhaskey (24, Mukundnagar) has been arrested and remanded to police custody till March 11. Police suspect the gang may be involved in similar crimes.
