Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The city is set to experience a water outage after a major rupture was reported in a 1,200 mm diameter main water pipeline supplying the city, at both Jayakwadi and Pharola locations. Repair work began late Thursday night, with the municipal administration carrying out emergency restoration on a war footing.

The outage is expected to last at least 10 hours, during which no water supply will be available across most parts of the city, except the Cidco-Hudco areas. Residents will have to endure water scarcity during the peak summer season. The municipal corporation has postponed the city’s water supply schedule by one day.

The leakage near the crematorium area in Jayakwadi on the 1,200 mm pipeline had been worsening over the past four to five days. On Thursday, a large volume of water was noticed gushing out, prompting an urgent decision to undertake repairs. The water supply section initially planned a shutdown from Friday morning (9 am).

However, late Thursday night, another rupture occurred in the same 1,200 mm pipeline at Pharola. Large quantities of water reportedly entered the pump house, forcing an immediate shutdown of pumping operations from Jayakwadi and triggering simultaneous repair work at both sites. The estimated cost of repairs is around Rs 10 lakh.

Officials said that the water supply is expected to be restored by Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, the 900 mm and 700 mm pipelines remain operational. The Cidco-Hudco area will continue to receive water through a separate express line and is not expected to be affected.

Due to the disruption, areas in the old city that were scheduled to receive water on Friday will now get supply on Saturday, while Saturday’s schedule has been pushed to Sunday.

Residents, who already receive water once every eight to ten days during summer, will now face an additional delay. Municipal representatives had earlier urged the water supply section to reduce the gap between supply cycles, but the schedule has instead been further extended due to repeated disruptions.
