A large number of devotees gathered at mosques across the city to offer special prayers on the fourth Friday of the holy month of Ramzan. At the Jama Masjid in Aamkhas Maidan, the crowd was so large that there was hardly any space for worshippers even under the scorching sun. There is also a possibility that the fifth Friday of the holy month will fall on March 20. If the moon is sighted that evening, Eid may be celebrated the following day, Saturday (March 21).
The month of Ramzan began on February 19. During the first fifteen days, the weather remained relatively pleasant, which made fasting easier for devotees. However, over the past eight days, temperatures have risen to around 38–39°C, making the fast more challenging. At present, the final ten days of Ramzan (the last Ashra) are underway. On Friday (March 13), believers observed the 23rd fast.
Devotees began arriving in large numbers at the Jama Masjid from around 12 noon for the special Friday prayers. A temporary canopy had been erected outside the mosque to protect worshippers from the heat, yet many people still had to stand outside due to the large turnout. The special prayers were led by the Imam of Jama Masjid, Hafiz Zaker Saheb.
Similarly, a large number of devotees gathered for prayers at the Shahganj Mosque in the city. A significant crowd was also seen at the Shahi Mosque in Kile Ark, where worshippers offered prayers despite the intense heat.
Appeal to pray for peace
During the sermon, Maulana Mufti Naim Saheb urged members of the Muslim community to pray for peace in the country during Ramzan. He emphasised that as the holy month is nearing its end, every moment should be spent in good deeds. He encouraged devotees to engage in recitation of the holy Qur’an day and night and to complete important charitable duties during the pious month, including paying Zakat, giving Fitra, and offering Sadaqah.
