A 28-year-old man booked for repeatedly assaulting and threatening a woman under the guise of a relationship. The case, initially filed at Waluj MIDC Police Station, has been handed over to Chikalthana Police for further probe.

The accused has been identified as Ayub Pathan(Lonar, Buldhana), befriended the woman in 2021. Over time, the friendship turned into a relationship. During this period, he imposed religious and personal restrictions on her, including forcing her to wear a burqa and avoid traditional customs, refrain from eating beef, and not wear a bindi, leading her to cut ties with him. In 2023, Pathan allegedly lured the woman to Hotel Lotus Lodging near Shendra Kamani and assaulted her multiple times. On January 25 this year, he reportedly tricked her into accompanying him for a pilgrimage, but instead confined her in his pickup van and abused her again. The next day, he allegedly issued death threats to her younger brother and sent him inappropriate images. He also coerced her into wearing a burqa again, warning her against breaking contact. When she finally severed all ties, he reportedly threatened to leak her private photos and hurled caste-based slurs. Police have registered a case under various serious charges, including sexual assault, criminal intimidation, and use of derogatory language. The matter is now under active investigation.
