The district sessions court has sentenced Amit Lalkha Tadvi (24) to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly raping a 24-year-old woman after posing as a police sub-inspector and luring her into a relationship.
Sessions judge R.D. Khedekar on Friday (Feb 27) convicted Tadvi, a native of Gondegaon in Jamner taluka of Jalgaon district, currently residing in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and imposed a total fine of Rs 15,000, of which Rs 10,000 is to be paid to the victim as compensation. According to the complaint, Tadvi had been living as a tenant in the victim’s house since February 2023 and gained the family’s trust while assisting them during the mother’s surgery in May 2023. Claiming to be a PSI, he developed a relationship with the woman. On September 19, 2023, he allegedly raped her when she was alone at home. On September 22, 2023, during a Mumbai trip with the victim, her brother and his friend, he again assaulted her, threatening to viralise photographs taken there. After his impersonation was exposed, he was expelled from the house on February 13, 2024, and his friend later allegedly issued threats. A case was registered at the Satara police station. The charge sheet was filed by then sub-inspector E.S. Kamthe. Assistant public prosecutor Arvind Bagul examined 11 witnesses, with the victim’s testimony proving decisive. The court convicted Tadvi under relevant and sentenced him to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment with a Rs 10,000 fine, along with one year’s imprisonment and Rs 2,000 fine each under Sections 417 and 170, and six months’ imprisonment with a Rs 1,000 fine under Section 506.
