Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A local court sentenced Sheikh Shoaib (24, Nawabpura) to life imprisonment for murdering his brother-in-law, Jameer Khan, in a long-standing family feud. Additional Sessions Judge R.D. Patil also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000, directing Rs 3,000 as compensation to the complainant.

Murder stems from bitter family conflict

The case traces back to a marriage dispute. According to the complaint filed by Jameer’s stepfather, Syed Ejaz (50, Kaiser Colony), Jameer had married Rukhsar, a resident of Saeed Colony, five years ago. But within three months, Rukhsar’s brother, Nabbou, pressured Jameer into divorcing her. Rukhsar later started living with another man, Majid. Tensions escalated four years ago when Jameer and Shoaib, Nabbou’s son, clashed over the issue. The conflict reached the police station, with Nabbou filing a complaint against Jameer at City Chowk.

Murder in Shahaganj

On June 4, 2021, Jameer left for work as usual. But by nightfall, tragedy struck. Around 8 pm, his friends rushed home in a rickshaw, delivering chilling news Shoaib had brutally attacked Jameer with sharp weapons at Shahaganj. Family members rushed him to GMCH, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. City Chowk police registered a murder case.

Conviction despite key witness turning hostile

Assistant Inspector A.A. Syed led the investigation, filing a charge sheet in court. During the trial, Assistant Public Prosecutor Ulhas Pawar produced 12 witnesses. However, a crucial eyewitness turned hostile. Despite this setback, the court found Shoaib guilty under IPC Section 302 and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹6,000. Police constable Gulab Bhosale assisted as the case officer.
